Staying active: enjoying exercise

I've found lots of ways to stay active here. I've joined the UTS University Running

Society and the Coogee Running Club (Coogee Beach is a 15-minute bike ride from

Kensington). Running along the coast and enjoying the sea breeze is really refreshing.

There are a lot of cool clubs and societies at UTS. But if, like me, you can't find a sport,

that's not a problem either. I go boxing in Germany and have found a way to do it here

without expensive lessons. At the University of New South Wales (UNSW) you can sign

up for clubs (UNSW is a 5-minute bike ride from Kensington). Just have a look and see

if there's something for you. It's a great way to meet new people and learn something

new.

I also started surfing at the Maroubra Beach Surf School. Surfing is an important part of

Australian culture and so much fun! (Maroubra Beach is a 25-minute bike ride from

Kensington)

I also bought a second-hand road bike. It's handy for getting around town and perfect

for some exercise whenever I have time. (it's the best vehicle to explore the city, just

make sure you buy a helmet, it's compulsory)

Live music in Sydney

Sydney has a vibrant music scene. Every Thursday, there is a brewery called ‘Yulli's

Brews’ that offers free jazz and soul events (and many other free events around the city

centre in that vein). A nice place to relax and enjoy live music. (Yulli's Brews is a 10-

minute bike ride from Kensington)

There are also many affordable rock concerts where local artists perform. Attending

these concerts is a great way to discover new music and learn about the local culture.

But of course, you'll find all kinds of music and popular artists in Australia's biggest city.

My favorite places

One of the best things about living in Sydney is visiting places like Palm Beach. It's just

a short bus ride, and then a pleasant walk takes you to the Barrenjoey Lighthouse. The

hike there is easy, and the view from the top is fantastic. You can see the ocean

stretching out in front of you. Palm Beach itself has beautiful sandy beaches and clear

water. A perfect place to relax and take beautiful photos.

But the beaches in Manly or in the eastern suburbs are also highly recommended.
