My Semester in Sydney, Australia

I’m Clara, a final-year biotechnology student at ESILV, currently spending a semester abroad in Sydney at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Let me share my incredible experience living and studying in Australia.

Life in Sydney

Sydney has been a dream! Whether it’s the beaches, the culture, or the adventure, there’s always something to do. One of my favorite activities has been spending time at Bondi Beach, where I often swim, play volleyball, and finish the day with a barbecue by the pier. The relaxed beach vibe is perfect after a day of classes.

I also had the chance to watch a live rugby match between Australia and New Zealand, an intense and thrilling experience, especially with the passionate local fans. Sports are a big part of Sydney’s culture, and I also played golf and joined some of the recreational clubs at UTS to stay active and meet new people.

Exploring Sydney’s Attractions

Sydney is full of amazing places to explore. The zoo and aquarium were particularly memorable — I got to see kangaroos and koalas up close, animals you don’t see anywhere else in the world. The city’s museums are fantastic too; I visited several, from art galleries to cultural exhibitions. Every weekend brought a new adventure, including a trip to Fiji, where I enjoyed the stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters.

The public transport system makes it easy to get around, and I loved discovering different neighborhoods. One place I highly recommend is the Spice Alley, a hidden gem where you can try all kinds of food from around the world. It’s a must-visit for foodies!

Studying at UTS

Academically, UTS has been an enriching experience. The courses I took, like Data Analytics and Python Programming, have deepened my knowledge and challenged me in new ways. The teaching style here is different from what I’m used to — there’s a lot of emphasis on group work and self-learning, which has been both fun and rewarding.

The international student support at UTS has also been great. From orientation programs to student events, the university makes sure you feel welcomed and integrated. I’ve made amazing friends from all over the world, which has made this semester even more special.

My Recommendation for Future Students

To anyone considering studying abroad at UTS, I can only say: go for it! It’s an experience of a lifetime. Get involved in the clubs, meet new people, and take every opportunity to explore. From the stunning beaches to the lively city culture, Sydney has something for everyone.
